"The traditions of improvisation are central to understanding the choices made by musicians in playing and can help to understand the role of jazz in cultivating communities. Improvisation, both collective and solo, builds a relationship between the members of the ensemble, fosters communication with one another and creating in real time. These ideas can be explored further in the lives and work of Sidney Bechet and Art Blakey: two musicians on different sides of the 20th century whose narratives reflect the historical tensions and innovations in cultivating freedom through improvisation." - Corina Kwami

Offstage, Corina holds a doctorate in engineering and is a speaker, strategist and policy advisor on future cities, infrastructure and sustainability. She has been recognised for her “impressive grasp of what jazz can teach us about leadership, partnerships, and innovative thinking” at the UNLEASH Innovation Lab

‘‘Jazz, above all, is freedom music.” -Sidney Bechet

“Who knows...we’ll be playing jazz and having a good time.” - Art Blakey
